On Thursday 23 May 2019, the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society and Turicum Private Bank will present the first ever ‘Gibraltar Proms’ at the Alameda Open Air Theatre at 8pm.
The Gibraltar Turicum Proms offers an informal environment for audiences of all ages to enjoy a chamber orchestra concert featuring the European Sinfonietta and violinist Domenico Pierini in a more relaxed and accessible atmosphere.
For 20 years the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society has been bringing the highest quality of music to audiences in Gibraltar. A fundamental part of the Society’s mission is to offer the opportunity to engage with and experience music through specially tailored and distinct strands of activity.

Violinist and conductor Domenico Pierini was born in Livorno in 1967. He studied with Moshè Murvitz and Roberto Michelucci. In 1987 he graduated with top marks and merit from the Conservatorio Pietro Mascagni in Livorno. He started his career in 1987 at Teatro la Fenice in Venice as assistant concertmaster. In 1988 Zubin Mehta invited him to join the Orchestra of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the following year he chose him as concertmaster, a position which he still holds.
In over thirty years as concertmaster in the major Italian theatres he has been able to work with the most prestigious names on the contemporary musical scene who encouraged and inspired him to approach conducting to complete his personal and musical life. Giuseppe Sinopoli introduced him to the most significant musical scores, and after he also benefited from the precious technical/musical advice of Zubin Mehta.
