Opening concert of the new season is always an exciting and special moment for the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society as well as for our audience. We feel very privileged that the European Symphony Orchestra under the baton of rising star Denis Vlasenko will open the 2019/2020 concert season with all-Tchaikovsky program that exemplifies the Russian master’s multi-faceted music. As ever, we are committed to bringing the world class artists to Gibraltar and making classical music accessible to everyone.
National Celebrations Classical concert will take place at St Michael’s Cave on Tuesday 3 September 2019 at 8.00 pm. The concert is sponsored by and organised on behalf of the Ministry of Culture.
DenisDenis Vlasenko is rapidly emerging as one of the brightest Russian conductors of his generation. He began his education at the Moscow Chorus Academy, followed by the Moscow State Conservatory, finalizing his studies at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory. In 2005 he was appointed Assistant Conductor to Vladimir Spivakov at the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia. He then worked at the “Novaya Opera” in Moscow. Subsequently he was appointed Permanent Conductor at the “New Russia State Symphony Orchestra” at the invitation of Maestro Yuri Bashmet. Vlasenko is working regularly with many great artists,such as: Anna Netrebko, Yuri Bashmet, Vadim Repin, Denis Matsuev, Boris Berezovky, Nikolai Lugansky, Sergey Krylov, Maria Guleghina, Dmitry Korchak, Lucas Debargue and many others. He has been in increasing demand elsewhere in Europe and Asia where engagements include the “Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra”, “Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna”, “Orchestra del Teatro Carlo Felice Genova”, “Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, “Latvian National Symphony Orchestra” and the “Brussels Philharmonic”, “Tatarstan Symphony orchestra”, “Muenster Symphony”.

Price includes a bus shuttle service departing from the Public Market and opposite the Cable Car as from 6:30pm. Please note no parking is available at the St. Michael’s cave.
Young people age 18 and under attend ALL Gibraltar Philharmonic concerts free of charge, making it easy for families to go to concerts together.
